ΟΡΟΣ ΒΟΡΕΙΟΝ — Northern Mountain
The northern mountain is one of the distinctive features of Cosmas’ cosmography. In his explanation of the sun’s course, the mountain helps account for the movement of light, shadow, day, and night within the created order.
ΟΙΚΟΥΜΕΝΗ — Inhabited World
The oikoumene is the inhabited earth: the ordered human world beneath the firmament, shown here as the land set within the cosmic enclosure.
