A museum quality cosmological print inspired by Egyptian cosmology. Nut and Geb, the ancient gods of sky and earth, arranged within the sacred architecture of the world. Nut stretches across the heavens, her star-filled body forming the great celestial vault above Geb, who rests on the earth below. In Egyptian tradition, the two were once joined together until Shu, god of the air, separated earth from sky, creating the ordered space of the world between them. Nut became the heavens themselves. Each evening the sun passed into her celestial body, travelled through the unseen night, and was born again at dawn. Here, the solar disc rises at the horizon beneath her arch, while the winged scarab below recalls the eternal movement of the sun, renewal, and rebirth. The result is less a portrait of two deities than a picture of the cosmos itself: earth below, heaven above, and the sun continuing its appointed passage between them.
